The Rare Bird Pub - Guysborough, Nova Scotia
Brewery

So what does a bird know about brewing? Well, nothing.

Fortunately, Guysborough is home to the oldest commercial brewing operation in Atlantic Canada. This centuries old brewing tradition began in 1659 with the enterprising Acadian, Nicholas Denys and continues on today in the Rare Bird with the Authentic Seacoast™ Brewing Company.

"Inside, it's no less impressive; it's a spacious pub with a modern, shiny, copper brewery"
– Progress Magazine

Our commitment to Atlantic Canada's oldest brewer means we make beer the authentic seacoast way – handcrafted in small batches using no preservatives. Our Rare Bird Craft Beer is made with pure artesian water, hops, and Canadian-grown malted barley to capture the history, flavour and pioneering spirit of Chedabucto Bay. Unfiltered for fuller flavour, each Rare Bird Craft Beer is the perfect accompaniment to the fresh sea air and the friendly people who live on our shores.

Rare Bird Pub

People often ask what makes our Rare Bird Craft Beer taste so darn good – we believe it's the water. We use only pure, unchlorinated, deep artesian water, which the locals believe is the secret to the longevity of the people living in the communities around Chedabucto Bay. As our brewmaster likes to say – live long, drink beer!

Now we can't promise that drinking an Authentic Seacoast Ale will help you live to be a 100, but there's no harm in trying!

Rare Bird Craft Beer

Brewing 101
Our commitment to making you a great Nova Scotia craft beer starts with quality ingredients. We begin by selecting the finest hops and malted barley. Then we combine these fresh ingredients with pure, unchlorinated artisan water. No preservatives are added to our unique recipes. Our beer is then fermented in copper clad, polished stainless steel fermenting tanks. After fermentation is complete, we store the beer in stainless steel storage tanks in a temperature control room that holds the beer at 4° Celsius for optimal flavour. We invite you to come and enjoy the exceptional taste our commitment to brewing excellence creates.
